 Oppositie en regering in Suriname lijken verenigd te zijn in hun standpunt om het Sinterklaasfeest in het land af te schaffen. Een pleidooi van oud-president Ronald Venetiaan voor afschaffing vond bijval in het parlement van Suriname - een zeldzaamheid, overigens.In de jaren tachtig werd het Sinterklaasfeest al afgeschaft in Suriname, meldt Star Nieuws. Nu wil de Surinaamse regering dat opnieuw, vanwege het 'racistische element' van het Sinterklaasfeest, door de zwarte pieten. Sinterklaas wordt de laatste jaren juist weer gevierd in Suriname. |

 After 30 years of legal battles in what is perhaps the nation's most famous and racially charged death penalty case, Philadelphia prosecutors announced today that they will end their battle to seek the death penalty for former Black Panther and one-time journalist, Mumia Abu-Jamal, in the 1981 murder of a white police officer.The Associated Press reports: Abu-Jamal was convicted of fatally shooting Faulkner on Dec. 9, 1981. He was sentenced to death after his trial the following year.Abu-Jamal, who has been incarcerated in a western Pennsylvania prison, has garnered worldwide support from those who believe he was the victim of a biased justice system. |

 We leven in de 21ste eeuw dit volks feest met "zwarte slaven" past niet meer in onze tijd. De piet staat symbool voor de slaaf. De sint kan piet nu wel bevrijden. Kinderen zijn de toekomst. Laten we onze kinderen een toekomst bieden waar elk mens gelijk is. Het staat vast dat de zwarte piet dimensie raakvlakken heeft met overblijfselen van de ontwikkelde concepten stammend uit het(Nederlands) koloniaal- en slavernijverleden. Afschaffing van het zwarte piet element uit het sinterklaasfeest vanwege de racistische elementen en haar psychologische gevolgen voor Donkere Nederlandse kinderen van Afrikaanse afkomst. De piet staat symbool voor de slaaf Help hem bevrijden Als er een petitie zou zijn: Weg met Zwarte Piet zou je het dan tekenen? Ik pleit voor een sinterklaas feest zonder pieten. |
